Upgrade from access 2003 to 2007
« on: February 04, 2008, 09:58:41 am »
Good morning,

Our plant will be upgrading from Microsoft Office 2003 to 2007 are there any potential or known issues we need to know about before our upgrade; our current version is 4.3 of CheckIN/Checkout software and hardware?

Thanks,
smitbg

Hello,

Microsoft Office 2007 is not supported and can not run side by side with 2003. CheckIN/OUT will not run with 2007 installed.

Thanks

Hello,

Your reply that Microsoft Office 2007 is not supported; does that mean at this time?  I assume your customers and potential customers are using Access 2007 now or eventually will upgrade.  Will there be a time when your software will be supported with the new office "2007 Access" for CheckIN/OUT?

Thanks,
smitbg

Engineering is in the process of evaluating "2007 Access" but there is no specified time frame for when it will be supported.

"engineering" needs to step it up.  there needs to be a patch/fix/sp?   service pack 1 is out maybe they fixed it for you.  I testing on a machine in the morning, ill let you know how it turns out.

Ok,
well the patch did not actually "fix" the issue.  It did make the switch between the two faster.

Procedure we use to run both.  Install tracking software 1st with no version of access at all.  It will install 2002 runtime,  install access 03 and then install access 07.  Without access 03 it just will not run.   it will run with access 03 installed.  It doesn't matter which you install 1st really, thats just the order I did it this last time.  Although, when I use access 07 and then close the application.  Then start the other application (check in/out) 2002 runtime will configure and run the app.  Not access 03.  The switch is much faster with the sp1 patch than without it, so thats a plus.  I think its more complicated then just access 02, 03 and 07  I think there is also issues with the .net and iis versions.    //sigh

the errors that are popping up appear to be VBA refs on macros just fyi.

- cannot use the check in /out SW at the same time as 2007 access app.

- switch between the two can be very very annoying.

-STEPS:
If in CH in/out, close sw, then open access 07 let 07 install
Then close access 07 to use CH in/out
Before open CH In/OUT you have to run access 03 and close it letting the installation happen before you run CH in/OUT again.
You can then use CH IN/OUT.
If you need to switch constantly the entire procedure has to be repeated each time.
