Microsoft has changed the location of the adofiltr.dll file in the Active Sync 4.0 and above versions.  To compensate for this do the following:

Browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync
Right-click on adofiltr.dll and select Copy
Open My Computer and browse to C:\Windows\system32
Right-click in a white space and select Paste  (this should paste the adofiltr.dll file in this folder).
Answer 'Yes' to the "do you want to replace the file" question.

Ensure that the file msvcp71.dll is also in the system32 folder.  If it is not, copy it from the Microsoft ActiveSync folder and paste it into the System32 folder.

Close the My Computer windows.

Next, you want to register the adofiltr.dll in the new location.
Click 'Start', select 'Run'
In the box type: regsvr32 C:\Windows\system32\adofiltr.dll
Click OK
You should get a "Successful" message.
