e-mail notification
« on: March 02, 2009, 10:15:25 am »
I first posted a question simular to the one below back in October, 2008. The question below is excerpted from someone who posted around the same time that I did.

Hope you do'nt mind but i am using his question to get the answer to a question I need answered.

"... Is there and alternate way to test if the email notification is operating properly within the Package Tack software".

"... When I look at the recipients list it says notification sent (today), but nothing comes through. I look at the server logs and it does not even report an attempt from the workstation".

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thank you.

When sending an email, Package Track uses the email server but the process is initiated in Package Track. For emails to be sent, the program must be running. The timer settings for sending an email (every hour, day, or week) are based on the Package Track program (i.e., Package Track determines if it is time to send the email based upon when the last email was sent).

To notify by email in Package Track, enable email notification, configure your server settings (you need a valid SMTP server, SMTP port, and account; a static IP address for the SMTP server is preferable), check the notify by email option in the recipient record, and enter the email address in the recipient record. Also, the program must be running for the email to be sent.

I am not aware of a separate test available for testing email notification.

What if you sent an e-mail to notify someone each time they receive a
reply to a post that they started or one they have been replying to.
Im a member of the National Window Cleaning directory and everytime you receive a reply they send you an e-mail notification.

Just a thought.
