Hardware for Package Track
« on: December 09, 2004, 06:57:59 pm »
My company bought intellitrack package track software as a package but the company sent us the wrong hardware.  We are getting a refund but I am wondering if the Dell Axim X50 handheld with a socket communications SDIO in-hand scan card will work with the barcodes we are scanning... UPS, FedEX, USPS, etc..

I need to order this asap.  Please advise

Thanks

I have personally scanned all of those labels using a Socket scanner.  The Barcode symbologies for the major freight carriers you list are typically Code 3 of 9 or code 128 symbologies.  Where you will run into a more unique environment is in dealing with carriers that may use 2D barcodes.  I have not come across any, carriers that use them but if you deal with a wide variety of carriers it would be worth while to take some samples of the labels and present them to your hardware reseller for "Barcode verification"  This process typically involes using a tool that reads and verifys the type of barcode symbology in the label.  Here's a link to the SDIO in hand scan specifications if it helps you out: http://www.socketcom.com/product/IS5300-464.asp
Socket communications is a front runner in this compact scanning technology so they may be an excellent resource for you if your hardware reseller is not.
